Few Hours Ago, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has gotten anewe party leader after its long ,troubled andanticpated quest to elect leaders after it suffered defeat in the 2015 Presidential election.

Emerging  the winner is Mr Uche Secondus, former acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The businessman turned politician has spent many years playing party politics right from his days as the Youth Leader of the Rivers State chapter of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN), during the Second Republic

So here are Major Facts To Know About Uche Scondus

Birth

Prince Uche Secondus was born on March 22, 1955 in Andoni, Rivers State where he spent most of his early years .

Education

Mr Uche completed his elementary and secondary education in Rivers State after which he attended the London Chambers of Commerce Institute where he obtained a certificate in Commerce.

Uche Secondus Political Career Timeline

He went into politics On his return to the country when he delved into business and soon made a name in the politics of his home state.

Second Republic

He Officially Kicked off his political career during the Second Republic in 1978 and has been a member of the PDP since 1999.

He continued in politics even after the collapse of the Second Republic in 1983, joining several other politicians to form various political organizations while waiting for the then military government to lift the lid off politics.

Third Republic

During the Third Republic berthed, he promptly joined the National Republican Convention (NRC) and soon emerged as its Publicity Secretary in Rivers State.

His political profile rose tremendously during the Third Republic as he was seen as one of the driving forces of the NRC in the state.

As the mouthpiece of the ruling party in the state, he left no one in doubt of his ability to not only defend the NRC and the then Governor of the state, Rufus Ada-George.  It was during this era that Secondus confirmed his place as an astute player of party politics.

Democracy

It was not surprising when that when democracy returned to the country,Nigeria in 1998, he returned with it as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

He went on to serve as a two-term chairman of the PDP before leaving the stage to move on to higher party assignments at the national level. But that was not until he earned the nickname “Total Chairman”.

In 2007, he was the South-South Coordinator for the PDP National Campaign Council that organized the campaigns for the party during that year’s general elections.

In 2008, he became the National Organizing Secretary for the party, holding office until 2012.

In  2013, he was elected as the Deputy National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party and also briefly served as acting National Chairman of the party between 2015 and 2016 after the resignation of Adamu Mu’azu.

Secondus was the second chairman of the Rivers State PDP.

He was one of the only two candidates from the south-south region in the race for the National chairmanship seat in the just December 2017 convention.

His Opponents

Mr Secondus defeated a former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran, Founder of Daar Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, as well as a Former Minister of Sports and Special Duties, Taoheed Adedoja, in a controversial election at its national convention which commenced on Saturday at the Eagles Square in Abuja.

The candidates who withdrew were Bode George, former Deputy National Chairman; Gbenga Daniel, Rasheed Ladoja, erstwhile Governors of Ogun and Oyo States, respectively, and Jimi Agbaje, PDP governorship candidate in Lagos State in 2015 elections

With Secondus in charge, the party secretariat was always a beehive of activities.

He was totally in charge. He gave no room for dissidents to rock the boat of his leadership.

He was always ahead of those who plotted to disrupt his reign.
