Before you ever decidce to hit the tracks, ensure your doctor / physician checks you and certifies you fit .
This is one step many newbies and even pros skip and it can be quite dangerous.
Runners should look after their heart as well as their limbs.
TIP 2 WATER
You must stay hydrated during your run. Water stops probably aren’t enough, so bring it with you.
Having water with you or taking water stops doesn’t mean you should drink excessive amounts. Kindly use common sense.
Several belt-like products are available that allow you to strap the water around your waist.
Think about your water strategy for the race, making a note of how much you need to drink and when.
TIP 3 SHOES
For marathoners, newbies and even pros investing in a good pair of running shoes cant be over-emphasized.
Though most of them are quite expensive and they’re not always the most beautiful. But if you’re wearing a good shoe, you’re less prone to injury.
Wear shoes that you’ve been wearing to train so there are no surprises.
Sometimes, your shoes gets worn out from the time spent rather than number of times worn
It best to have more than a pair for rotation purposr.
TIP 4 FOOD
It is advised to have at least a 300- 400 calorie breakfast before you hit the track, 2 – 3 hours earlier .
You definitely don’t want to be so filled up that you can’t run or get tired easily.
Also on that day do not i repeat , do not try what you havent troied or even trained with.
TIP 5 TRAIN
The trick to run a marathon and not die in the process is simple: you need to train!
Training is very important to put your body in shape as well as prepare for the rigorous run.
Lazy training can mean serious consequences for marathon runners, including dehydration, injuries and possibly even death.
TIP 6 HAVE A GAME PLAN
Plan ahead – and keep your head at the prize. Running a marathon of course has its fun time as everyone gets amped up.
One quick secret : you Should not start too quickly ! If you do your energy gets depleted easily
“Follow your race plan. It’s exciting running a marathon and everybody gets amped .
The last six miles will be difficult but stay tough and focussed and know that all your training and hard work will get you to the finish line.”
Additionally, you can make a checklist / to-do list which helps a long way to make sure you on track.
TIP 7 KNOW THE ROUTE PROPERLY
It is very imoportant that you know the route to run days ahead of the marathon.
Get the map, understand the navigations and get familiar with it.
Don’t wait for thousands of marathoners to help you navigate.
Make use of the extra time you’ll have
studying the map /route prior to the race will help you develop a visual picture of the start and finish locations, the turns, where the aid stations are located, and the sites you’ll see along the way.
For every mile run take a minute walk. Save the race. Walking intervals help you keep focused.
This strategy also allows you time to recover so you can avoid having to walk the rest of the way to the finish line.
The key to running a strong first marathon is to remember the three “P’s”: Preparedness, Patience and Perseverance.
There is nothing quite like running your first marathon.
You only get one chance, so make it count!
