Celebrity of the week takes a different turn this week as we celebrate a chef, Yes a Chef, so for the love of food our celebrity of the week is no other than Chef Fregz. Fregene has gained over 200 cooking gigs and counting so lets cleb.

Gbubemi Fregene, also known as “Chef Fregz” was born on the 25th February.

Born in the south-western Nigerian city of Abeokuta, Ogun State to a family with one sibling. He hails from Warri south LGA, Delta State.

He had his growing up years mostly in Benin City, Nigeria. He attended Olashore International School, Osun state for his secondary education.

He caught the cooking bug at the tender age of 10, and was convinced he wanted to be a chef at age 16.

He bagged a BSc degree in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management from Covenant University.

In 2009, after his youth service chef fregz started a small Barbeque and mini catering service called DVARD.

Convincing his family members in 2010 to take a chance on him and invest in his dreams, he went on to the prestigious culinary institution – Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Institute – in Paris where he got his diploma in Cuisine.

On completion of his diploma at Le Cordon Bleu, he worked as an intern at the Prestigious Market Restaurant, Paris, between November 2010 and February 2011.

Fregene became the only one of that batch of interns who was retained and employed by the restaurant after the internship period.

After returning from France, Chef Fregz put his skills to work as he started started  Chef Fregz Special at his friend’s cafe in Opebi Cafe Licious .

The brand “Chef Fregz”was birthed out of a need for the young chef to communicate and connect with the upwardly mobile crowd which he has serviced hitherto.

As a Chef, Gbubemi’s passion is to merge a creativity that is fresh and unbridled with elements of the budding youth culture and the world class training he received at Le Cordon Bleu in order to make every meal a truly unique culinary experience.

Speaking to tush magazine in an interview, he revelaed

My decision to become a chef was very simple. I love to eat, I love to cook, I love to eat what I cook. I loved it so much that I realized I could make money out of it so I just thought I’d go for it.

Chef fregz gained rapid heights for his skills, with time he became the chief columnist for Bellanaija Cuisine.

He also has a rapidly growing presence online and serves as one of the resident judges on the hit TV show Knorr Taste Quest.

Fregene also offers private chef services where he has catered for several events; from breakfast meetings to offshore dinners, from middle class to top class, people and is gaining a rapidly growing reputation in this industry as a young chef who has something new and different to offer.

Chef Fregz has a few strong names under his belt so far. These include Leadway Assurance, Hercules Offshore, Eventful Ltd, Polo Store, Puma, Hugo Boss, D.O II Designs, The US Consulate, and The Italian Consulate.

Fregene defied all odds and made a niche for himeslef from his passion for cullinary / food / cooking and today we are celebrating that step he took .
