Lagos is one state that has abundance of food from a great mix of cuisine – both local and intercontinental alike.
The average Lagosian cant do without street food which can be found in many a Lagos street corner, giving the city it’s unique feel.
Street foods have become an important part of our lives in Lagos. They are readily available when the hunger pangs starts biting and you probably don’t want to go to a restaurant. There are countless street foods you can find around.

Top Eight Street Food Every Lagosian Can’t Survive Without

1. Akara
This is a major street food that cuts across all from the fresh kids to the street kids.
It is a deep fried Nigerian Snack and breakfast meal made with ground de-hulled(peeled) brown or black-eyed beans and spices.
Also called Fried bean cake / Beans cake aka Akara is a deep fried beans ball made with grounded beans mixed with pepper, onions and other spices.
2. Abacha
Some call it African salad, some say tapioca but we know it as Abacha.
 
Abacha is an Eastern Nigerian delicacy of the Igbo tribe of Nigeria.  it has rapidly gained grounds as a Lagos street food.
It is combined the tapioca with oil, potash, onions, fish and several other ingredients
Ever heard of or eaten an African salad? if you’ve not then you certainly need to try it.
3. Noodles and egg
Noodles is fast becoming a top street food in the metropolis. The Noodles delicacy is popularly prepared by the Hausas in the community.
You find them in kiosks, umbrellas and some corners around. and its not uncommon to find queues around noodles and egg joints at night.
As the name suggests, this quick meal comprises cooked noodles garnished with a variety of things like sausages, onions and fish served alongside one fried/boiled egg.
4. Suya
This is an all time favourtie and majorly night time street food. Hanging out in Lagos cannot be complete without suya.
It comprises grilled spicy meat of sorts also called Berbecue Meat, fish or chicken.
You will always find ‘Mai Suya’  that is Suya sellers at almost every street angle.

5. Ewa agonyin
You love beans ?, then this should be your favourite street food. Ewa Agoyin is a delicious meal made from beans served with spicy stew.
It is made of mashed beans served up with a special peppered sauce popularly.
It is usually hawked in the mornings . The best combo is having Ewa Agoyin and Agege Bread or  garri . Whenever you see Ewa Agoyin sellers, you will see bread sellers as well.
6. Puff puff
A very popular street food that every child knows. Similar to donuts but always spongy, fluffy and of course delicious.
 
Nigerian Puff Puff is one Nigerian Snack that you eat and never forget. It is fluffy, spongy, and simply delicious.
Puff Puff is made with flour mixed with sugar and other ingredients. It is usually sold on street sides in transparent show glasses.

7.Boli

Boli or Bole which is Roasted plantain is one to go street food that works like magic.
 
The best part is when you combine it with groundnut which is quite yummy. Boli and Epa is the way to go.

8.Corn + coconut

You can enjoy roasted or cooked corn on its own without coconut. But corn and coconut are fantastic when consumed together.

If you are yet to taste this street food together, you should probably try it because the taste is out of this world.

Roasted corn and pear/coconut: Whenever corn is in season, you can count on finding roasted corn dotting the streets of Lagos, sold alongside pear (ube) and/or coconut.

9. Groundnut /Epa

This is one kingpin of street food. It comes either boiled or fried. The boiled groundnut has its seasons.

So in conclusion, if you havent tried any of these or at least 5 of these above then you are not a certified Lagosian.
